Because why must it always be Debbie?
Anyway, sorry for being such a drag the other day! That storm was just . . . wild! And scary.
I’m thrilled to report that things are starting to look up around here. We had some casualties (melon, radishes, lettuce, cucumbers, both summer and winter squash), but nothing that cannot be replanted or replaced.
Luckily (or unluckily), I’m a crazy person and have a really hard time throwing out unused seedlings, so I still had some back-up melons in the mudroom.
I re-buried the toppled-over, washed-out tomatoes with some leftover compost, and I actually think they are now bigger than the rest of the tomatoes (ready for support, anyway). While there was some water damage on the tomatoes and peppers, I don’t think it’s anything we can’t bounce back from.
Some things will just be behind this year, but that’s OK. I’m almost always behind with most things in the garden (scratch that: life) and I’m so effing thankful to have not lost more than we did.
Look! The corn is standing back up!
And golly, it’s hot as the devil right now! Which was a great excuse to make strawberry margarita popsicles (recipe coming soon) and spend the evening tooling around the river with friends instead of getting work done.
Everything will get a dose of compost tomorrow . . yippy skippy.
